The author of the book Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out, the nutritionist from Washington, the USA, JJ Smith reveals the secrets of diet products.
“Fat-free,” “Sugar-free”, “Low-cal”… The people, who are losing weight, are often drawn by such promising labels. But it turns out that these products do more harm than good, as the famous American nutritionist believes.
The main problem of the products designed for anyone who is on a diet is that they still contain hazardous ingredients. The fact is that manufacturers do not want to make tasteless food, as nobody will buy it. Therefore, cutting the content of some harmful components (fat, sugar), they are forced to add other, no less harmful ingredients. JJ Smith writes about it in his book. Here is just a small part of the answers Dr. Smith gives about the existing dangers.
  • According to him, if the product does not contain fat (it is labeled as “low fat”, “fat-free”), the lean taste is compensated for by the excessive amount of sugar, salt, and artificial additives.
  • Cookies with “no sugar” may contain such ingredients as glucose, fructose, and corn syrup. Ultimately, this is the same sugar that will be converted to fat if not burned. Read the labels carefully!
  • Low-fat yogurt usually contains a large amount of preservatives, and 0% fat is compensated for by artificial flavors. As a result, even the useful probiotics are wasted in yogurt.
  • The concept of “low-calorie product” is also a trap. The product may contain very little sugar, but it may contain three times more harmful fats and may have no vitamins and minerals. And artificial additives will only clog your body and turn into fat.
What is the solution? The nutritionist advises not to develop “the fad of buying” dietary products in supermarkets. It is better to replace all the products labeled “sugar-free” or “fat-free” with organic vegetables and fruits, as well as natural yoghurt, or sour-milk products. And instead of sauces, you can add lemon juice or balsamic vinegar to the dishes. And JJ Smith promises that then you will for sure control your weight!
